I planted a mix of annuals and perennials in the upper half of the front yard flower bed. The challenge is to distribute height, flower color, and leaf size, color and texture appropriately across the bed. It takes some effort planning the layout, but is quite rewarding. When I finish the lower half tomorrow, I will take a total count of seedlings planted. My guess is that it will be over 500, but it could be more.
Some perennials were first divided and replanted. They included sedum, a crawling white flower (name unknown), and a crawling bright green plant (name unknown).
I also removed two tall grasses from the lower end of the bed.
The new seedlings planted in the upper half include:
- Impatiens, Dwarf Pink Baby - Annual
- Portulaca, Double Mixture - Annual
- Snapdragons, Tetra Ruffled Supreme - Annual
- Alyssum, Carpet of Snow - Annual
- Potentilla - Perennial
- African Daisies - Annual
- Verbena - Annual
- Petunia, Wave Purple - Annual
- Chinese Forget-Me-Nots, Firmamenty - Annual
- Dahlia, Unwin's Dwarf Mixed - Annual
- Lupines, Russell's Prize Mix - Perennial
- Blanketflower, Burgundy - Perennial
- Delphinium, Pacific Giants - Perennial
- Nasturium, Gleam Mix - Annual
- Lavender, Vera - Perennial
- Viola, Johnny Jump Up - Perennial
- Hibiscus, White - Perennial
- Cosmos, Bright Lights - Annual
- Salvia, Scarlett - Annual
- Echinacaea - Perennial
We are still in a very dry weather pattern. The plants in small containers are suffering and I need to water them two, sometimes three times a day. Rain in not in the forecast until Monday or Tuesday of next week.
