The Front Yard

Today's activities included tasks which neatened up the front yard:
  • Yanked out some of the day lilies to enlarge the growing area for vegetables.
  • Yanked out the forsythia located in front of the fence.  Ugh!
  • Transplanted thornless blackberries where forsythia once resided. The berries were a $3.00 discounted pot from Lowe's purchased last year. They were given a larger pot last year and have really multiplied.
  • Cultivated the front foundation bed and relocated some of the artichokes, Mammoth Sunflowers and cabbages.
  • Weeded the periwinkles on top of the rock wall.
  • Weeded the morning glories around the lamp post and raised the rocks that define the growing area.
  • Thinned the peaches on the peach tree at the top of the hill.  At least 200 peaches were thinned from the tree and well over 200 peaches remain. The tree will require at least one more thinning.
  • All eight fruit trees have fruited this year: apples (3), pear (1), plums (2), peaches (2).
  • Repaired window box that was damaged by the rain storms over the past week.
  • Weeded some of the dandelions in the front yard.
